Beatriz de Galindo Distinguished Invited Professor at the University of Valladolid
Facundo Mattea is a Beatriz de Galindo Distinguished Invited Professor at the University of Valladolid. He graduated as a Chemical Engineer in 2005 from the National University of Río Cuarto (Argentina) and later obtained his PhD from the University of Valladolid in 2009, with a thesis titled “Micronization of carotenoids and Bio-polymers with supercritical fluids.”
He completed his postdoctoral training at the Institute for Sustainable Process Technology (ISPT) at TU Delft (The Netherlands). In 2013, he returned to Argentina, joining the National Scientific and Technical Research Council (CONICET) as an Assistant Researcher and the National University of Córdoba as an Assistant Professor. After being promoted to Associate Researcher in 2016, he became an Independent Researcher and Associate Professor in 2022 before taking up his current position in Spain.

- Supercritical Fluid Technologies: Development of new materials, aerogels, and nano structures using compressed and supercritical carbon dioxide.
- Sustainable Pigments & Dyes: Formulation, extraction, and purification of biogenic colorants (carotenoids, indigoidines, etc.) for the food, cosmetic, and textile industries.
- Green Process Intensification: Implementation of eco-friendly downstream technologies to minimize solvent use and environmental impact in industrial manufacturing.
- Polymer Engineering & Design: Synthesis of responsive hydrogels and highly branched polymers for Enhanced Oil Recovery, 3D printing, and radiation dosimetry.
My research
Facundo combines a strong academic background with a commitment to industrial application and sustainability. His research bridges the gap between fundamental science and real-world engineering, focusing primarily on the use of supercritical fluids and the design of advanced polymeric materials for the sustainable production and application of natural dyes.
Throughout his career, he has supervised five PhD theses and two postdoctoral researchers. His scientific output includes 55 articles in high-impact international journals (h-index 21), four book chapters, and one international patent. He has also presented nearly 100 contributions at scientific congresses worldwide and participated in 20 research projects funded through competitive public calls. Beyond academia, Facundo actively collaborates with the industrial sector, leading technology transfer contracts to develop and implement scalable, eco-friendly chemical processes.
